What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber essentials is a new Government-backed scheme to help organisations understand what common cyber attacks look like and what basic controls all organisations should put in place to protect themselves.

By implementing Cyber Essentials with ID Cyber Solutions, your organisation can reduce exposure to common threats by as much as 80% as highlighted in the report  Common Cyber Attacks: Reducing the Impact, published by the UK Government on 16 January 2015.

Why should I apply?

Cyber Essentials is the minimum an organisation needs to implement to bid for new MOD requirements which include the transfer of ‘MOD identifiable information’.

As the risk level goes up, some additional controls are required that can be evaluated through Cyber Essentials Plus vulnerability tests.

The ID Cyber Solutions team of security experts will help you achieve the required certification by providing guidance and feedback on your IT infrastructure.

What is the difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus?

These two options are progressive stages of the scheme.

The first stage is Cyber Essentials, which involves a cyber security self-assessment.

The second stage is Cyber Essentials Plus. On top of the cyber security self-assessment, this involves onsite internal and external vulnerability tests as well as some technical auditing.

How long will it take to process my accreditation?

The process is very straightforward and should only take a few days. Once you have applied and your order is confirmed, we will send you log in details for the online assessment portal. If you have all the information needed to answer the self-assessment questions, it will probably take you a couple of hours to complete (you do need to add some brief notes with most answers). You will then need to print off the declaration and get it signed by a Board member (or equivalent), scan and upload it. After submission it will usually take us two to three days to assess your answers and get the result back to you.
